Mental Health Workshop
A group of senior cycle students travelled to Sligo to participate in this eventful and informative day. A variety of speakers addressed the group – Maureen Griffin, a Forensic Psychologist, spoke on Cyber Bullying, Clair Swinburne author of “So what do you think” a guide for the teenage mind gave a presentation on the benefits of positive thinking. Ann Marie from Today FM and Wally the Rapper gave an enlightening account of Wally’s recovery from depression. Spun out – a mental health organisation and Lough Allen Students, who have won the Mental Health National Public Speaking, both delivered presentations on Minding Our Mental Health. Ms. Kellegher and Ms. Hanly accompanied the students.
Peace and Reconciliation Programme (Green Hat)
Fifth Years and Transition Years are engaging in this twenty hour programme that involves visits from guest speakers who had first hand experience of living through this traumatic period. Workshops will raise awareness about the extent of the troubles in Northern Ireland and the continuation of peace initiatives throughout the six counties.
Where have you Bin.
This is a project jointly promoted by Leitrim County Council and i radio to heighten awareness of litter. i radio claim they have personnel visiting towns and villages undercover and anyone spotted putting litter in a bin is set to win €100.
The U/16 and U/19 basketballers played St. Muredach’s College, Ballina at home. The U/19’s lost by a a narrow margin while the U/16’s had a handsome win. Ms. Hargaden Ward says the U/16’s have a good chance of reaching the Regional Finals.
Dearbhaile Beirne has represented Connacht in an Inter provincial Soccer Tournament in Athlone. Dearbhaile will now attend further trials in the coming months with a view to representing Ireland in the sport. .
