Transition Years.

The TY students are all settled into their programmes and work experience.  We wish to thank all those employers who have given them the opportunity to experience the world of work.
The students went to the Shannon River Adventure Centre at Rooskey on their bonding trip where they participated in rock climbing, archery, mud sliding, kayaking, pier jumping, obstacle courses and some other team building exercises.  They were accompanied by the TY coordinator – Ms. Hargaden Ward.
First Year Boys Football.
Mr. Nolan took the boys to a blitz in the centre of excellence in Annaduff where the boys played at nine a side against St. Clare’s, Manorhamilton A and B and Carrick C.S – A and B .  While they failed to qualify it was a good introductory outing for the boys.

Culture Night.
Leaving Cert Art Students together with Ms. Purcell visited STart Studio, based in the old Convent building in Mohill.  Kate Murtagh, resident Artist, invited the group.  It was a beautiful evening with the building illuminated by candlelight and the saxophone music enticing one to enter. Brenda Clarke’s studio space was the venue for the evening.  The group enjoyed Feral Courtney’s discussion on Brenda’s work and the demonstration by Kate.
Junior Girls Football.
Mohill played away to Mercy College Sligo last week and won the game by a one goal margin after a great second half display.  Ms. Hargaden Ward was in charge of the girls.

School Mass.
The school mass is in the Parish Church at 3.00 p.m. on Monday, 10th October.  Parents and guardians are welcome.

Geography Field Trip.

Fifty five Leaving Certificate Geography students visited the Killukin river beyond Carrick on Shannon to carry out their investigation on the impact of transport and deposition on the formation of a river meander. This is an essential component of  the Leaving Cert syllabus. Ms Scollan, Ms Maxwell and Ms McManus guided the students through their research and data recording.
Girls Football.
Senior girls played Carrigallen V.S. at home. They lost on a scoreline of Mohill CC – 1-2, Carrigallen V.S. – 3-9.  Ms. Flanagan is in charge of this team.

Senior Boys Football Blitz.
Mr. Beirne accompanied the boys, who were without Mohill club members to Drumkeeran. They played Drumshanbo V.S. and lost by two points. Their next game was against Ballinamore C.S. and they lost by a bigger margin, which ended their involvement in the competition.

We welcome new and returning students to the new school year and hope they have a happy and fulfilling year.

Sporting Activities.

In addition to Ms Travers, P.E teacher, who facilitates sports in the school on Mondays, all students have access to supervised indoor and outdoor soccer during lunchtime.


Ms.M. McGovern is working with students who are interested in singing.  This activity also takes place during lunchtime.


Ms. McManus has initiated lunchtime debates with interested second year students.


We applaud all the students who sat Leaving and Junior Certificate exams this year.  Results reflected the hard work and application of the students during their time in school.


We congratulate Mr. Duffy and his wife on the birth of their baby boy.


Parents/Guardians of new First year students have been issued with username and passwords to check on the details of their sons’ or daughters’ records on the school’s VSware programme.  Details of absence from class, or school, term test results and signatures earned are available.  All other parents/guardians were provided with this information last year.

Corn Breifne.

The senior boys played St. Clare’s Manorhamilton away and lost by a point on a 2-16 to 2-17 score line.  Mr Beirne is mentor to this team.

Higher Options.

Leaving Certain students attended the Career day in the RDS last week, where Colleges at home and abroad are represented.  They were accompanied by Career Guidance teachers Ms Hargaden Ward and Ms Myra Reynolds together with Mr. Gannon and Mr McHugh.


We sympathise with Shannon, Ciara and Eoghan Beirne on the death of their grandfather – Michael Ramsden in England.  Condolences also to Ms Duffy on the death of her uncle – Harry Duffy and to Ms Callinan on the death of her uncle in law – James Crowe.
