Language Assistants.
We are happy to welcome two language assistants to the French and German Departments for the remainder of the school year .Bienvenue a Leila Guenineche a Parisian who will enrich the learning experiences of students of French in the coming months. Transition Year News.
The TY students have had a busy month so far and have just completed the first residential of the Key Programme in Northern Ireland. Mr Duffy accompanied the students on their two day trip.

JP Mc Manus Scholarship.
Congratulations to Caroline Moran who completed her Leaving Cert in June on winning this prestigious award, on the basis of her overall level of attainment in the examinations. The award ceremony is in the University of Limerick in November and the guest of honour is Bill Clinton.We are proud of your achievements Caroline and wish you the best in your studies and in the years ahead.
School Mass.
The school Mass for the start of the year took place in the parish church on Friday week last, it was concelebrated by Fr Murphy and Fr Burke. The theme was “Happiness” and students had displays around the church of the things in life that make them happy. The students were involved in many aspects of the celebration and added much to the ceremony. Thanks to Fr Burke and Fr Murphy and to all who helped out in preparation and on the day.

Mohill played Grange V.S. Sligo in an away game and had a comfortable win, Ms Nertney is in charge of this team.

School Notes – October 11th, 2012

Floral Pride Award
Congratulations to the Autism class and helpers who were awarded third prize in the competition. The award is a fitting reward for all the hard work they put in resulting in the colourful displays on show all year round.

Geography Field Trip.
Mr. Kehir accompanied the Leaving Cert Geography class to Killukin River, Kilmore, Co. Roscommon. The primary focus was on river erosion and that entailed plenty of measurement and sampling at the site.

“Bin it Workshop”
First Year students attended a workshop facilitated by Wrigleys to track pupils knowledge and raise awareness of how to dispose of used chewing gum. The workshop used role play and activity based learning.

Transition Year
The group had a most enjoyable and busy two and a half day trip to Roscor Youth Village Fermanagh. They had Key Training on Enterprise and setting up a mini company, they also had team building exercises as well as many outdoor pursuits including gorge walking in wet suits followed by orienteering, and a low rope obstacle course.

First Year Boys Football.
In their first match of the year Mohill drew with Ballinamore PPS in a game that produced fifteen goals, the final score was Mohill 8 – 11 to Ballinamore 7 – 14. Mr. Nolan is in charge of this panel.

Senior Boys Football.
Mohill played Ballinamore PPS at home and shared the spoils on a scoreline of 3-11 each. Mohill were playing well and were up a few points in the last quarter, but were unable to maintain their lead. Mr Beirne manages this team and wishes to thank Mohill GAA for the use of their facilities and to Kevin Mc Grath who refereed the game. Connacht Athletics
Congratulations to Dearbhaile Beirne and Ashling McNabola who came first and second in the AVIVA combined events Junior athletics, held in Galway recently.
They qualify for the All Ireland in Santry at the weekend. This is a great achievement for the girls and well done.
Art in Collins Barracks.
Ms. McGrath and Ms. Purcell brought the Art students from Transition Year, Fifth and Sixth year to the Eileen Gray Exhibition in Collins Barracks.
Ms. Travers
We congratulate Ms. Travers, who together with Mary Lynch, won the Granard Cup, a National Golfing Competition, held in the Hermitage Golf Club in Dublin. They beat eighty nine teams in the competition, which is an annual fundraiser for charity.

National Culture Day
Artwork from last years Junior Cert students was on display in Mohill Library during National Culture Day, a celebration of culture, creativity and the Arts. Ms Purcell organised the art display.

We welcome Ms Horan a teacher of Irish and English to our school.

Connacht Interschools Athletics
Ms Yorke accompanied nineteen students to the Combined Events athletic meet held in Dangan,Galway. Combined events means each athlete must compete in four or five disciplines depending on their age – Shot Put, Long Jump, High Jump, Hurdles, 200m and 800m. Those who completed at Minor Level were Liam Rowley, James McNabola, Peter O’Neill, Johnny Boyle, Sibeal Reynolds, Niamh Hargaden, Emma Quinn, Lily Crossley, Heather Maxwell, Ezekiel Stevens, Shane McGowan and Luke Jones.
The participants at Junior Level were Dearbhaile Beirne, Conor Reynolds and Ryan Murphy. Those who lined out at Intermediate Level were Aishling McNabola, Keith Beirne, Oisin Madden and Shane McGowan (Fifth Year). Results are not yet to hand.

Inter Schools Equestrian Competition
Mohill hosted this event in Moorlands Equestrian Centre in Drumshanbo on Sunday week last, – eight schools were represented. Mohill entered a Novice and on Open Team as well as individual competitors in Open classes. The Open team of Mollie Crossley, Shauna McCrann, Cian Wrynn and Tadhg Mulligan came second overall.
The Novice team of Cora Maxwell, Caoimhe Wrynn, Shauna McCrann and Mollie Crossley also competed. In the individual Open competition Shauna McCrann came first, Tadhg Mulligan came sixth and Heather Maxwell also took part..

Welcome Back.

Congratulations
Karen Roche, who completed her Leaving Certificate in June, has been awarded a Naughton Foundation Scholarship to support her study of Science at Third Level. This is worth €8,000 over four years and the school qualifies for a €1,000 grant towards Science Laboratory equipment. Well done Karen and good luck in your studies.
New Teachers.
We wish Ms. Tobin the best in her career break and welcome her replacement Ms. Nertney, who teaches Science, Biology and Maths. We welcome Mr. Duffy, who teaches DCG and Maths also Mr. Kehir, who replaces Ms. Maxwell, who is on maternity leave.
Higher Options
Leaving Certificate students are travelling to the RDS in Dublin to a career day, where Third Level Colleges from Ireland, Britain and further afield will be represented. Ms. Reynolds and Ms. Hargaden Ward organised the trip.
Transition Years.
This group have had their bonding trip with a visit to Zip It in Forest Park Boyle, where they fly from tree to tree on zip lines. Mr. Duffy accompanied the students.
Condolences.
We sympathise with Amy Cox, second year student, on the death of her great grandmother, Mrs. Kathleen Clarke and to Eimear and James Doherty, sixth and third year students, on the death of their grandmother, Mrs. Ann Doherty.
To Ms. Travers on the recent death of her father in law – Mr. McKeon. To anyone in the school community who have lost a relative during the holiday period we offer our sympathies. May they all rest in peace.
