UCD Entrance Scholarship Award 2017

We are delighted to hear of  yet another Scholarship Award, conferred on Evan Harkin on Thursday 16th November 2017.  Evan will receive his JP McManus All Ireland Scholarship Award on Saturday next 25th November in the University of Limerick.  The Guest of Honour is President Michael D. Higgins.  The Scholarship Award celebrates its 10th Anniversary this year.  Evan is the third Mohill Community College student to receive this Scholarship.  Well deserved affirmation of academic diligence and success.

Trip to Strasbourg

Congratulations to Eoin Gaffey who has won a trip to Strasbourg in an online competition with Graduate.ie.  He will be a very able representative on his trip to the European Parliament later in the year.  The four-day all expenses paid trip will involve a one day visit to the parliament where the students from all over Ireland will take part in Euroscola which is a youth parliament.  Students will take part in a number of discussions on topics about E.U. with students from other member states.  The group will also be taken to other places of educational interest.

DCU Academic Scholarship Award

We are delighted to announce a fourth Scholarship Award for our Leaving Cert class 2017!  Aisling Burke is to be awarded an Academic Scholarhip Award by DCU on 29th November.  Aisling is studying Early Childhood Education in UCD.  Congratulations Aisling!

Sports Leadership Qualification

Congratulations to last year’s Transition Year students who recently received their certificates for their Sports Leadership Level 1 Qualification which they completed as part of their  Transition Year Programme last year.  In addition to this Qualification which all received, Chloe Cunningham and Alanna Ward received an additional ‘Spirit of Leadership’ Award.  Well done to all.

Congratulations in abundance!

We congratulate all our Leaving Cert and Junior Cert students on their excellent exam results this year.  As many of our Leaving Cert 2017 students begin their further studies we wish them well on their chose paths.

Congratulations to Ryan Shanley whose success in scoring 625 points was in itself a wonderful achievement, and added to that the award of a UCD Ad Astra Scholarhip!  The reward of his labours and academic success also saw Leaving Cert student Liam Rowley honoured with the award of the RCSI Scholarship (only one granted in Ireland each year!) on Tuesday last.  And, as all good things come in threes, Evan Harkin is to be awarded the JP McManus Scholarhip in an Awards Ceremony next month!  We are truly delighted for Ryan, Liam and Evan, and indeed for their parents and families!  It is affirmation for the students and for ourselves in Mohill Community College.  We know they will be proud ambassadors for the school.

We equally celebrate the successes of our Junior Cert students, three of whom will be honoured with the irish Business Studies Teachers’ Award in the Bailey Allen Hall UCG on Tuesday next, 10th October – Aoife Duignan, Ciara McKiernan and Cormac White.

Michelle Hackett, Leaving Cert student, won the Best Individual Nett Prize in Irish Senior Schools Cup for Connacht!

And our First Year Boys brought back the Cup on their recent Football Blitz outing!

While our Leitrim Observer Notes have been absent for recent weeks following the retirement of Mr. McHugh, the endless action in school continues!  We hope to resume our notes, perhaps with more of an emphasis on pictures!  Also, coming soon a more active Facebook presence which will keep you in touch with the immediate happenings in MCC!

Career talk on Stem Careers for 5th years .
Fifth year students in Mohill Community College recently had a school visit from the Smart Futures school visits programme.
Ms Reynolds organised the school visit with Mr Paul Lundy from Abbvie and he talked to the students about the day -to- day duties involved in his work as an Engineer with Abbvie -a pharmaceutical sister company of Abbotts in Sligo..Paul gave a very insightful and informative talk which gave the students a glimpse of what’s involved in being an Engineer .

Smart Futures is a collaborative government-industry-education programme promoting science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) careers to post-primary students in Ireland. It is managed by Science Foundation Ireland in partnership with Engineers Ireland’s STEPS programme.
