DCU.

Dublin footballer, Johnny Cooper, visited the school as an an ambassador for DCU and met the Leaving Cert class.  This is the third year he has talked to our Leaving Certs about the options available to them in DCU.  He proved to be a most popular visitor.  Ms. Reynolds arranged his visit.
Roscommon Hurling Title.
Shane Mallon, Kieran Reen and Cormac White play U/14 hurling with Carrick on Shannon and they were part of the team that won the Roscommon U/14 Shield Final.  Well done lads.
Ladies Junior Football.
Mohill played a home game against S. Clare’s, Manorhamilton and were beaten.
U/14 Girls.
The girls played Drumshanbo V.S. away and had a comprehensive win.

The TY class attended a meeting of this group in Carrick recently.  They engaged in workshops regarding Leitrim today and what changes they would like to see especially for teenagers.  They were given a talk about mental health and were welcomed by Chairperson of Leitrim County Council, Mary Bohan.  A video on homelessness in Leitrim was launched on the day.

Sky Sports Mentoring Programme.

Leitrim GAA footballer, Kevin Conlon, is facilitating this for the TY class.  It focuses mostly on sports activity, with emphasis on the life skills athletes identified as enabling them to achieve success in sport and life.
Senior Boys Basketball.
The U/19 boys recorded a good win against St. Louis Community School, Kiltimagh last week.  The margin at the final hooter was thirteen points.  This was an away game and Ms. Hargaden Ward is coach to them.

Mohill played Mercy college, Sligo in a home game and were losers on the day.
World Wise Global Schools at Mohill Community College.
Ms. Maxwell and Mr. Nolan attended the WWGS Teacher Conference held in the Hudson Bay Athlone.  WWGS assist schools nationally through funding resources and guidance to set up a Development Education module.  The aim is to increase teacher and student awareness of unequal world issues and Mohill CC are focusing on the theme of Climate Change for the 2016/2017 school year.  TY students will become informed and promote awareness, complete research and achieve goals on climate change throughout the year.
School Mass.
Fr. Murphy celebrated the start of year Mass in the parish church.  The ceremony was embroidered with student participation in readings, music and singing.  The theme was on growth – that growth that sees one grow in spirit, mind and body as the years progress.
Art.
The TY students accompanied Leaving Cert and Fifth Year art students on our trip to Dublin.  We had a wonderful day, which started at The Hugh Lane Gallery in the beautiful Charlemount House on Parnell Square.  Inside, we met our guide, who brought us through the beautiful spaces and talked to us about some of the works.  Students particularly liked Harry Clarke’s stained glass.  “The Eve of Saint Agnes”.
We travelled across the city to The National Museum where “The Bog Bodies”, Christian Artefacts and hundreds of other Irish and International objects were on show.  By the time we got to Liffey Valley on the way home we just about had enough time for some sustenance before departure.
Evening Study.
Supervised evening study will commence after the midterm break.  Details available in the office.

Art Expedition.

Transition Years together with Art students from Fifth and Sixth year paid a visit art galleries and museums in Dublin.  They were accompanied by Art teachers – Ms. Purcell and Ms. McGrath.
