Mohill School Crest

School News (week ending 4th May 2018)

Projects & Exams: The past week has been an extremely busy one in the school, with project deadlines drawing to a close and exam years working on practicals. The Leaving Cert Agricultural Science group had their practical interviews on Tuesdaywhile Leaving Cert Engineering had their practical exam on Thursday. The Junior Cert Metalwork practical also took place while the 6th Year LCVP students sat their exam on Wednesday. Well done to all on completion of the above.

Careers: The 6th year group attended a talk in school this week with a representative from St. Angela’s and NUIG, to discuss course options. Many thanks to Ms. Reynolds for organising this.

Junior Cycle: The second years are currently busy with Classroom Based Assessments (CBAs) in Business, English and Science. These projects are a part of their Junior Cycle studies & we wish all the best of luck in completing them.
Sporting achievements: It has been wonderful this week to see names of present students excelling in their sporting interests outside of school. Well done to Jennifer Andrews (3rd year) who received a gold medal in the county swimming finals and Ella Byrne (2nd year) who also took home a gold in the under 16 swimming competition. The girls go forward to represent Leitrim in the All Ireland finals in the University of Limerick 25 – 27th of May. Congratulations also to Alannah McGuinness (TY) who won her sprint at the North Connaught schools competition this week, she will now go on to represent MCC on May 17th at the competition in Athlone. We extend best wishes to all past students travelling to New York with the Leitrim county team for their first championship round (here’s hoping a win will be in the bag by time of print!)
First Aid: The Transition Year group completed an intensive, two day first aid training programme last week, under the guidance of trained paramedics. Important life skills were learned so well done to all and many thanks to the visiting paramedics for their time and dedication.
First Year Enterprise: Under the guidance of Ms. Gilheany in Business, the first years held a movie afternoon on Friday, as part of their enterprise work and also as a fundraiser for the students going to Lourdes, Eva Keegan and Cormac White. Well done to all who worked on this project and to Ms. Gilheany for her help.
Big Brother Big Sister: This week the Big Brother Big Sister group took a trip to the cinema, to watch The Greatest Showman. Many thanks to Ms Hanly and Ms Cunningham who accompanied the group. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Big Brother Big Sister helps the transition of first year students into a new school and is always a great success, thanks to all involved for their hard work.
