Mohill School Crest

School News January 28th 2016

U/19 Boys Basketball.

The team acquitted themselves very well in the playoffs hosted by the school last week.
In the first game Mohill ran out winners against St. Enda’s Salthill on a 49 to 33 score.  They then faced St. Malachy’s School Belfast and came agonisingly close by losing 50 to 55.  Incidentally St. Malachy’s have eleven hundred boys and six P.E. teachers in their school.  Well done Boys and to your trainer – Ms. Hargaden Ward.  Thanks to Paul McGuinness for his guidance and to Celine Mulligan, Caoimhe Canning, Aifric Madden and Katie Mulligan, who took charge of the table.  Thanks to all on the catering front also.  St. Malachy’s progress to the All Ireland semi finals.

“Leitrim County Matters”
Irish TV visited the school last week to film material and contributions relating to Valentines Day.  Ms. Reynolds had in her English classes been discussing the effect social media was having on young people’s relationships and how texting had replaced Valentine cards and other traditional greetings.
The classes viewed famous love letters between Michael Collins and Kitty Kiernan.  Students were then encouraged to write letters expressing their feelings for parents, family and friends.  They also created a “Wall of Love” in school where they defined friendship and love.  They also researched and compiled information on St. Valentine and his connections with Dublin.  A number of students were filmed reading their “love letters” and the broadcast date is Feb 13th, 2016.
School Enrolment and Open Day.
School enrolment for incoming First Years is on February 6th from 10.00 a.m. to 3.00 p.m. Contact the school if  these arrangements do not suit and an alternative appointment can be arranged.
