MCC School News Week Ending 14 / 12
Basketball: On Tuesday 4th December, our girls basketball teams competed in the North West school final, at home in MCC, against Mercy Sligo. Our under 16 girls emerged the victors of their final after a great battle. The under 19 girls were runners up in their final. Well done to all the team and Ms Hargaden Ward for their work all year, it has been a successful season, congratulations!
Battle of Wits: Our Transition Year team travelled to Athlone recently to compete in the Battle of Wits Regional Finals. Maeve Newton, Robyn Gaffey, Mark Reynolds & Ronan McNabola took on the competition, scoring highly on the night and representing MCC, well done to all and many thanks to Ms Hargaden Ward on her work with the group.
Apprenticeship workshop: Some of our Leaving Certs travelled to Sligo ETB training centre recently, with Ms Reynolds, to gain information into apprenticeship courses, both traditional and newer courses that are available. It proved a worthwhile journey, with students becoming more aware of all the options available after their exam year.
Football: Our junior boys recently took victory over Drumshanbo, to progress to the Connaught quarter final. Well done to Mr Kennedy and his team! The under 14 boys, with Mr Duffy as manager also progress to their Connaught quarter final, after a win over Glenamaddy on Wednesday last, another great achievement for MCC. In keeping with the current winning streak for MCC, Ms Mitchell and her senior girls stormed to victory after a great display at home against the Mercy, Sligo. Well done ladies!
Home Ec Trip: Third year and TY students headed off to Dublin last week, as part of their Home Economics studies. They visited IKEA to help them with their project work, before some ice skating in Blanchardstown. Many thanks to Ms Kellegher and Ms Maxwell for organising the trip.

Christmas Carol Service: The R.E department organised a wonderful carol service for our First Year students last week. Many thanks to the singers & readers who participated.
Big Brother Big Sister: The Big Brother Big Sister members have been working hard over the past few weeks, we look forward to a busy new year of activities and group meetings now that students have been paired up. Thanks to all for their hard work!
TY Trip: On Thursday 13th, the Transition Year students visited the Organic Centre in Rossinver, as part of their climate action project and development education project. A great day was had by all, with lots of information on the topic presented to help the students with their studies. Thank you to Ms Maxwell & Mr Nolan for organising and accompanying the group.
TY Dance Factor: On Friday 21st December, the last day of term, our Transition Year students put on a brilliant display of dance for the school, after weeks of hard work. Everything fromChristmas hits to Hit The Diff had a dance routine! Well done to the students behind it all, Ryan for supplying the music and to their mentor Ms Hargaden Ward who has been working tirelessly with her group this term.
Concern Debate: Well done to MCC Debating team who successfully notched up their third Concern Debate this week, this time against Mean Scoil Mhuire, Longford. The debate was hosted in MCC with the topic: “The Global Population ‘Time Bomb’ is being defused”. Mohill successfully carried the motion on the night.
Christmas: The holidays have arrived after a busy term for all the staff and students in MCC! To every member of the school community, we thank you for the hard work and support, both in the classroom and out, that allows our school to be the hub of activity and learning that it is. We wish a happy and safe Christmas to all. Enjoy the festivities!
