Drumshanbo Vocational School has a long tradition of offering Post Leaving Certificate Courses to learners: The courses are full-time and last for one to two years. PLC courses offer a mixture of practical work, academic work and work experience. They are designed as a step towards skilled employment and, as such, they are closely linked to industry and its needs. The Post Leaving Certificate courses in DVS adopt an integrated approach, focusing on technical knowledge, core skills and work experience. Some students use points acquired from PLC courses as an entry to college. Other learners have chosen to defer a college course , for whatever reason , while obtaining valuable vocational skills on our PLC courses. Research conducted by third level Institute of Technologies has shown that students who have previously completed a Post Leaving Certificate course prior to commencement of college have higher retention levels. The college is currently offering four PLC courses
