Strokestown Park.
Strokestown House and its gardens, woodlands and famine museum are in the news currently.  They have sponsored a “Schools Sculpture competition”.  The theme to be inspired by the famine.  The sculptures will be located in the woodland along the walkways and will be voted upon by visititors from June until September.  Ms. McGrath together with the TY Art class created ceramic “teardrops” to represent the suffering and sadness of the famine.  The teardrops were inscribed with family names and townlands that were heavily impacted by the famine.  The sculpture also had CD’s intermingled with the teardrops to reflect hope for the future.  Ms. McGrath thanks Saoirse Kilroy and Shauna Diffley, who helped with the placement of the sculpture during Easter Holidays.
