School News February 5th 2015

Transition Years.

Busy as usual for this group, they have completed the  GAA coaching course facilitated by Mr Gaffey, they finished with the child protection module. Thanks is due to Mr Gaffey for his generosity with his time and expertise.
They accompanied a host of sixth class students from local national schools on a tour the college in the week prior to enrolment  They had a talk from Youth Connect on student and world of work unions.  Fifth year LCVP students also sat in on the talk.
Work Experience.
Fifth Year students have three days work experience in the local and wider community this week as part of Career Exploration.  They want  to thank all the employers for the generous opportunities they are availing of.
Second Years in Knock.
As part of their Junior Cert Religious Education project they got a guided tour of the Shrine.  Another group of second years visited the Cenacolo Community, where ten men, recovering drug addicts are living a life of faith, proyer and subsistence farming.  They are dependent of the goodwill of the local community for clothes and food.  Ms. Hanly, Ms. Colum and Ms. Kellegher accompanied the students.
Fifth Year Agricultural Science.
Mr. Kelly visited two local dairy farms recently with her class.  They learned a lot about animal nutrition, hygiene,  milk yields and the importance of genetics in dairy farming. They also got to see a robotic milking system on Cathal McCrann’s farm.  Thanks to Joe Devine and Cathal for accommodating the students.
