Mohill Community College Past-Pupil Dearbhaile Beirne awarded ‘UCD Ad Astra Sports Scholarship’ February 2nd 2017
Dearbhaile, a noted Soccer player, has brought much distinction to Mohill Community College on the Football field over her years with us, and equally to club, County and Country as a noted Soccer player. It gives us great pleasure to see her dedication and single-mindedness rewarded in the award of this Ad Astra Sports Scholarship. While Sport often brought Dearbhaile away from the classroom, her commitment to her studies never lessened. Dearbhaile is currently studying Bio-Medical Science.
The UCD Ad Astra Sports Programme includes a number of highly successful sportsmen and sportswomen on the national and global stage. No fewer than eight UCD Ad Astra Sports Scholars qualified for the Rio Olympics. Current Ad Astra scholar Paul O’Donovan won an Olympic silver medal, three current Ad Astra rugby scholars were selected in Ireland for the Six Nations this year and we have no doubt that our past-pupil Dearbhaile Beirne will likewise act as a superb ambassador for the University both on and off the field of play.
